When anxiety creeps in, it’s easy to reach for quick fixes like deep breathing or distraction. While these can help, the Bible offers a deeper, lasting peace that goes beyond just physical calming techniques. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This means true peace doesn’t come only from what we do—like breathing exercises or mindfulness—but from what we believe: that God hears our prayers and is actively working for our good.
Coping skills from the Creator:
•Prayer as your first response: Instead of letting worry spiral, turn your anxiety into prayer. Speak honestly with God about what’s troubling you.
•Thanksgiving shifts perspective: Even in anxiety, thank God for what He’s already done and for His promises. Gratitude refocuses the heart.
•Meditate on Scripture: Let God’s Word be your anchor. Verses like Isaiah 41:10 or Psalm 94:19 can remind you that you’re not alone in your struggles.
•Trust God’s peace to guard you: The peace God gives acts like a protective guard around your mind and emotions, helping to keep fear at bay.
Remember, coping isn’t just about managing symptoms—it’s about rooting your mind in the truth of who God is. So next time anxiety strikes, don’t just breathe—believe.
